Strange Toilet Sign

April 27, 2010

Thanks to Walter Buffalo, who sent us this photo regarding the recent post by Mowreen asking for Best and Worst Japan Travel Tips. He commented that he had wished someone had taught him how to use a Japanese style toilet. He goes on to say:

I found this sign on the inside of the toilet in the Kobe Maritime museum: “Before you flush, please check that your mobile phone has not fallen in, because we can’t get it out for you after you flush.”

I would have thought it would be better to have a sign suggesting one doesn’t drop one’s phone in the first place!  And the fact that management thought this sign was necessary indicates that someone has indeed asked staff to retrieve a phone from the sewer at least once!

Ironically, this sign was only visible once one had actually finished sitting down!
