Ask Udder Smith: Fall Colors

November 1, 2010

Dear Udder:

I’ve just moved from Canada, and I really miss the changing colors of the autumn leaves by living in a big city — I am in central Tokyo. Can you give me advice on where to see the fall colors?

Pining

Dear Pining:

Luckily, Japan celebrates each season, and in Autumn there are many great places to see Fall colors.  If you are up for a day trip, Nikko, Hakone, or Kamakura, from Tokyo, are all easily accessible and boast beautiful hiking courses, temples, and of course, the changing leaves.

Tokyo itself has many great sites, too, if you know where to go.  Any readers out there with recommendations within Tokyo?  My favorite spot is to walk through the Tokyo University campus and enjoy the many golden ginko trees — but they will not change until the end of the month, at least.  Any other ideas?

Best wishes and

Mooos,

Udder
