Planet Japan Podcast: Ep 190 – Interview With a Mermaid

November 15, 2010

We open the show with Notes from the Twitterverse, including the book by George W. Bush and why he’s whining about Kanye West. Doug has brought back his political blog – nuts dicks & boobs – and we introduce you to the new iPhone Table – is it real or a fake?

How popular is Yoko Ono in Japan? We invite Japanese folks to let us know.

The Japanese government is trying to find out who leaked the video of the China-Japan boat crash.

China is also trying to get Japan to NOT attend the ceremony for Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Our Dick of the Week is the tattoo artist in Australia who got his revenge!

Japanese manufacturers of children’s school bookbags are in a tizzy about the size of the bags now that school materials are changing sizes.

We conclude the show with our Interview With a Mermaid. Mari Maekawa has been a synchronized swimmer since she was six – which probably helps to explain how she was able to land the part of a mermaid in the upcoming Johnny Depp movie, Pirates of the Caribbean 4! She talks about that experience, and also about what it’s like to be a Japanese-American woman from Seattle now living in Japan.

If you’re in Japan, don’t forget the big Podcasters Meet-Up slash Party coming up on Sunday, December 12 (sponsored by the Bad Communication podcast). It’s taking place in Kobe (near Sannomiya station), and it’s a chance to meet some of your favorite podcasters while sampling your favorite alcoholic beverages. Get all the details and sign up HERE!
